more crafting

A couple more crafts from this week

A fabric covered wipes case

And a new bag. I made my own pattern for it, and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. The one side isn't as flat as the picture makes it look. fyi, the batteries died right after these pictures so I can't get a better one. Yet.
And it's fully lined. Now to go somewhere so I can use it... :)

FYI...

It's been quite the Avery fest here on our blog this week.

We love Jack too. :)

Obama, and other fun with Avery

So... Barak Obama is our new president. I heard a lot of moans and groans when he was elected. Screams of socialism and general dread about how he will lead our country the wrong way. Throughout this whole time, though I did not vote for him, I've been trying to give him the benefit of the doubt and hope that he can deliver on some of his better ideas. Let me just say that, in his first month, I am not impressed. I think he has been very misleading (and perhaps just plain dishonest) in his addresses to the nation, and has made some bad decisions so far. I hope he can redeem himself.

Anyway... my point isn't to go off on politics. This is but a simple segway into other fun Avery stuff. So, speaking of Obama, Avery watched part of Obama's first press conference with us a few weeks ago, so we (wanting our child to be an informed citizen as much as possible) were sure to let Avery know who we were watching. Then, just the other morning, Avery climbed in bed with us and was climbing all over us, jumping on the bed, and things like that as normal. At one point he just looked at us and said, "Where's President Obama?" We didn't know how to answer him. He was also very quick to identify him during the presidential address the other night.

A couple other random things:
1) Birthday party - Avery seems to think that a birthday party is a birthday cake. We've been to several birthday festivities in the last few weeks (Uncle Jon, cousin Jacob, and Great Uncle Jack), and he's eaten a lot of cake... in other words, Avery heaven. He always gets very excited for these parties and says "I want to eat the birthday party!" Or "I'm going to eat [insert name here]'s birthday party!" We've tried to teach him the difference, but it's not sticking yet.

2) Vitamins - Avery is a lucky boy. His vitamins he takes are gummy bear ones from Costco... and he loves them. The "serving size" or "dosage" or whatever is 2 bears... so he gets 2 bears a day. Everytime he gets his vitamins, without fail, he says "2 vitamins, and 2 grandpas." I guess he's proud of the fact that he has 2 grandpas.

3) Hotpants - Avery has a lot of pajama sets that come with some pretty short shorts. He frequently asks (when getting pajama pants on) specifically for hot pants. I think that's funny.

4) Sleeping by the door - This one drives us crazy. We always put Avery to bed... on his bed. (crazy huh?) Yet, whenever we check on him before we go to bed... or put Jack to bed later than him, he is always sleeping right in front of the door so that we have to push hard and slide him on the carpet. He doesn't just go over by himself. He always takes all of his blankets (usually 3-4), his pillow, Curious George, and his 2 baby dolls over and makes himself up a bed. It's cute, but annoying.

Good Parenting Brag

Avery may pick up some less desirable things, but he is also quick to pick up good things. He's a little smarty. He recognizes most of the letters in the alphabet and knows a word that starts with almost all of them.

He'll happily shout the letter and corresponding word when he sees a familiar letter. It makes me happy. (D for Daddy, I for Ice cream, O for Octagon, etc)His new favorite game to play is UpWords. He dumps all the letters out and puts them on the board, each time saying the letter and word. So cute. I did good. (...You too Andy!)

We're working on numbers now. Thanks to a puzzle Avery loves to put together he's catching on pretty quickly!

Bad parenting (?) confession

On my iPod I have the soundtrack to "Music and Lyrics". I like it. We listen to it a lot in the car and at home. Well, we did. Until Avery asked if we could listen to "booty town". (There's a song on it called "Welcome to Booty town". I know...it sounds bad)

And now today Avery is walking around singing "booty town...booty towney...welcome to booty town"

Oh no.

We are now being VERY careful about the lyrics in the songs we listen to, as well as everything we say, what they say on tv...everywhere. The kid hears EVERYTHING...and repeats it all!!

And we don't even say bad things, just some things certainly do not sound right coming from a 2 year old!

I'm also working getting him to stop saying "What the HECK?!" Not something I want him yelling all the time!

Sew Crazy!

So, I may have gone a little crazy sewing little things this week. And it's only Tuesday! Sheesh!

It all started when my sister asked me to make a tag blanket for my nephew.
So I decided to make a little one for Jack again. this one is just 12 inch square. He loves all the ribbon on his big one.
I finished Jacks in like 30 minutes, and made Derek's this morning. I think it turned out pretty cute.

Here's a picture of Jack's too.

Then I saw a cute pattern for a business card holder, by Amy Butler. I thought it could also double as a little wallet so I tried it out. I liked it a lot, but wanted to change a couple things. That one got pretty out of hand. I ended up making 3 different ones, all similar but not the same. Who knew it would take that long to get it close to the way I wanted. It's still not perfect, but I had to make myself stop!

When I finished Derek's blanket this morning I made myself put all my sewing away, so it's not tempting me. I REALLY need to do some cleaning!!!

Avery Randomness

Around here we think Avery's pretty funny...examples...

Avery got a helium balloon earlier this week. He loved it. He would carry it around and randomly command it to stay on the ground shouting at it "Balloon! Stay Down!" when he let go and it floated to the ceiling he would look at me and say in his best 2 year old mad voice "Mom, it don't listen to me!"
This morning Avery was laying in bed with me, at one point he rolled over and started sucking his thumb. I asked him if his thumb tasted good he said yes. So I asked him what it tasted like. He smiled and said "A taco!!". I don't think he even knows what a taco is. He thought it was pretty funny though.

Sometimes during the day he walks up to the laundry room, opens the door, peeks his head into the dark room and yells "Duck, I'll be right back!" No idea what he's talking about or anything. When I ask him he just says "Duck is in time out". He's crazy. He keeps telling me when he gets big he's going to go to school like Daddy, or he's going to go to Daddy's office when he's bigger. He just can't wait. And by "when I'm bigger" he thinks that means after his nap, or tomorrow. I love that kids have no sense of time.

Speaking of sense of time, he tells me a lot that he'll "be back in half an hour" or he'll "eat lunch in half an hour", or we'll go out in half an hour. Half an hour to him could mean in 30 seconds, or next week.Avery saw a picture of Jack on the computer and immediately started smiling and proclaimed "He's so cute!" He also tells us that Jack is his "Very best friend" I love it.

He's started saying prayers by himself. Mostly just for meals. But it's really cute. Sometimes the order of his prayer is a little off, but he's got the right idea. And he thinks he's pretty cool!

I love pictures of my boys...

...seriously.

I can't get over how cute these two are!Jack rolled himself up in a blanket while he was playing on the floor the other day. Don't worry I unrolled him after taking this picture!
Eating birthday cake at Uncle Jack's house. Avery loved it!

Sleeping brothers

So for the last few weeks we've been struggling with Avery at night. He seems to be suddenly afraid of the dark, sometimes. And also VERY interested in climbing into Jack's crib. in the morning, middle of the night and sometimes just for fun when he's playing in his room.

Some times I'll go to get Jack out of bed and there are several toys and books, Avery's bedding, clothes. Whatever Avery can find to toss in there.

To say the least it's frustrating. Really.

But all the frustrating feelings start to melt away when we see something as sweet as this. Will it last all night, probably not. One of them will wake up and wake the other. But we're leaving them like that for now. It's too cute.

They sure do love each other.

And I sure can't wait to get into a place with one more bedroom!

I won something!

I've entered a lot of blog giveaways. Always crossing my fingers I'll win something. Once I won some great sour candy. I love sour candy.

Today I won something great. Really great. Family pictures! I don't know any of the details yet. But I'm so excited! We need pictures taken, badly.

So we'll be getting our family pictures taken by Emilie. I've looked at her work and I love it! Woo Hoo for winning!

Valentine Memories

Before Andy came into the picture I had my best girl friends, Karen and Sam. And we celebrated Komodo Dragon Day, instead of Valentine's. Maybe it was a silly teenage girl thing, but we had fun and each February 14th we wish each other a "Happy Komodo Dragon Day!". No matter how all of our relationship status' have changed. (I bet they'll hate this picture being on the internet!)
Sam, me, Karen

Then I got married, and we don't do huge things on Valentine's Day. We say "I love you" every day, so on Valentine's Day we like to wear red. Have a yummy meal, let our boys wear cute Valentine shirts. I get roses. We eat candy. It's like a party. We just love being together. Our first Valentine's I made him a heart to wear all day that says "my wife loves me" we still have it. And we ate fried chicken. We graduated to steak dinner the next year. : )

This year I tried to do something for Andy every day. One day the boys and I heart attacked his office while he was out. We made him some special heart shaped cookies, we took him a yummy lunch. I tried a craft and ruined it. But it's the thought that counts right?! :) So we've had a good week.Today we're taking the boys to my brother and sister in law's house and we're going out to lunch. This will actually be the first V-Day since we've been married that we are actually going out to eat. I usually just make a special dinner. And this year, Andy got me roses and wrote me a very sweet letter.

It's been a wonderful 4+ years with Andy. He's the nicest most considerate person ever. And I am very lucky to get to spend forever with him!

New keyboard

When we were home for Christmas I played the piano at my parents house a little bit. I forgot that I like do that.
So I mentioned to Andy some time I'd like to get a keyboard for our house so I can re-learn. I've forgotten a lot. Really a lot.
I'm not great. Well, lets be honest. I'm not even good.
But I figure with a little practice I may one day be able to play some songs from the "Simplified Hymnal".

He got me a keyboard for my birthday last month but when it came is was way cheap and already broken. So we returned it so I could find something better. I did a lot of research and decided I wanted a Yamaha, they get really great reviews and have all the features I want, and more!

Thanks to KSL I found the perfect one for me!

Here it is. Happy Birthday to me.I love it. And so does Avery. If he's awake he's playing on it. We need to work out some sort of schedule.

And now some cute pictures of the boys.

They both love the walker. Avery often gets stuck in it.
Check out the lashes on this kid!
Now that Jack sits up like a pro Avery loves to share his toys with him. Jack thinks it's great too. Even if it doesn't look like it in this picture!

Randomness

I saw these and wasn't interested in paying $50 for it. So I got a pillowcase and a scrap of fabric and made my own ghetto version. I actually really like it so I'm thinking I'll get some fabric that I like and make another. Also, I cut my hair. I hated it at first and felt like a boy, now I can handle it thanks to some great styling tips. I'm just not one for high maintenance hair. blah. I still don't love it. But it'll grow out right?! :)And I thought this picture of Avery was cute. It looks like he's thinking about something. Really he was telling me to take a picture of his cheek! Crazy....

I'll stick with wii sports, thank you...

Wii bowling skills do not transfer to real life bowling.

FYI

That's all I'm going to say.
