crayons, that is...and I helped! : )

I saw these adorable crayon cookies on Robyn's 'Craft With Me' blog and decided to try them out. They were so easy. Peeling the wrappers wasn't very fun, but I did it while watching Mansfield Park, so it went a little faster.

Avery of course tends to eat crayons, I guess they resemble some sort of snack...so he won't be using these right away, but I love trying new crafts! Currently I'm working on a quilt. We'll see how that goes!
But seriously, back to the crayons, after peeling you really do just break 'em and bake 'em!
Here's the link to the instructions, and some pictures of mine

Not enough sleep

This is what Avery looks like after getting only 9 hours of sleep, as opposed to his usual 12.
When I played bunco Andy let him stay up WAY past bed time and he was still awake when I got home at 10. He was wasted the next day!

Visual aids

This past Sunday our Sunday School lesson was on the vision of the tree of life. I decided that we should make some visual aids, so we got out the construction paper and made some pretty great ones. : ) I'm pretty sure the kids in our class were impressed with our kindergarten art skills, too.
jealous?

After we made them, and admired them I decided to look and see what FHE kits I have made so I can pick one for tonight. You'll never guess what I found. Maybe you will. A whole lesson, with laminated pictures of all the things in the tree of life vision ready to go. They were a little...classier than ours, so we felt pretty silly for not checking there first. needless to say we still used our "made with love" visual aids...but next time I'll double check my stuff before I attempt construction paper art!!

Bunco Baby!

Last night I played bunco, for the first time, with a local Mom's group I'm a part of. It was a lot of fun. We played, ate and chatted for over 2 hours...with NO kids!! It was the first time in a long time I've gotten out without Avery. I loved it.
I'd never even heard of bunco until I moved out here and now I hear people talking about their "bunco group's" all the time.
I can't wait until next month! I'm excited to have something to do, where I get out of the house and interact with other adults. I felt almost human last night!!

I am curious what others opinions are about bunco. I've heard a lot of people say that they won't play because it's gambling and what not. Maybe it's because I've never gambled, but I don't see how you could bet on a game like bunco. Unless for some reason the prizes for highest score, most buncos and lowest score are somehow gambling. So I'm interested to know what you think about it. Would you (or do you) play, and if not is it because it's gambling in some way?

How disappointing!

This afternoon I decided Avery and I would go walk around the mall, I was going to let him ride some of those little car toys they have (I've been saving quarters!:) ) and I was going to look for a new shirt.
So I told Avery all about it (like he really cared or understood...), packed the diaper bag and loaded him in the car. Only to buckle myself in and turn the key to have nothing happen!
How disappointing! Apparently we haven't driven the car anywhere recently and with all the cold it must have just gotten "tired".
So we'll have to get a jump before I can go anywhere! (our jumper cables mysteriously disappeared). So now we wait for Andy to get home and rescue us! :)

After this I'll be sure to use my car more often...so this doesn't happen again!!!

I wish the snow would melt!

That's about it...it just wont melt. It's so cold outside! I just watched the weather report and it's only 10 degrees in Salt Lake City! And we're supposed to get more snow tomorrow!! Blah!
I'm ready for spring! Avery and I are getting a little bit of cabin fever, I don't know if a trip to walk around wal-mart will cut it this time though!!
Maybe we'll venture out later. We'll see!

Birthday and mini vacation

My birthday was great, Andy got me the shredder/grater attachment for the Kitchen Aid, the Hairspray soundtrack and a 36" rotary mat and cutter. Now I need to find some stuff to shred and grate, and a craft to use the rotary mat!
I also got the Gospel Art Kit from Andy's parents, I'm excited about it. It'll be great for FHE's and our Sunday School class and all sorts of other fun! :)
And this afternoon I got flowers delivered to me! They're from my mom and dad, they're so pretty! I don't want them to die!

Then this evening Andy made me a great steak dinner. And we had our neighbors, Jordan and Amelia, over for cake and ice cream and lots of fun conversation. And Avery sure does like playing with Jonah. Or it's fun to pretend he likes having a little friend!

Tonight we also got our futon for Avery's room. It's nice to have a place to sit up there while he's playing and we still have a "guest bed". It's like our own little family room! now we just need to put a little tv in there.

This weekend we're going down to Cedar City to visit my brother and his family. We always have fun hanging out with them, and it's fun to have a mini vacation. So it should be fun!
We'll be coming back home Sunday night so we have Monday (MLK jr. day) to unwind and chill at home.

The coundown begins...

I really like my birthday, a lot. First, I get to pick whatever dinner I want...and I don't have to make it! How much better can that get?! And second...my husband spoils me. As if I need anything else after Christmas, because really, I don't! He's pretty good to me.
Happy Birthday to me! (almost!) :)

Random funny pictures of Avery

Here are some funny pictures of Avery this past month. He does some pretty funny things, we think so anyway!

#1 - He LOVES buckles (on anything, clothes, high chairs, carts, car seats, etc).
So he often drags his booster seat into the living room to play with the buckle, he discovered that he can buckle himself in...but he hasn't quite figured out how to unbuckle it!! So of course I got some great pictures of him being sad and stuck. But because it causes much grief for both of us...I hide it in the pantry when it's not in use!

#2 - This is just funny to me. He decided this was a comfortable place to sit while he snacked and watched a show. With the way the side walls were bowing, I'm not sure if the lid will ever fit quite right again!
#3 - Sometimes when he's awake for a while in is crib he gets out of all or part of his clothes. I think it's funny! Sometimes he decides he's done wearing pants in the middle of the day and will wiggle his way out. It's so funny watching him try and undress himself, he's just trying so hard!!

How awesome are these?

Baby (or toddler) converse?! Really, how much cooler can you be?

They're on sale for $8/pair at Garnet Hill, how could I pass them up? Avery will look great in them! I did think to get one size bigger than he's wearing now, since he doesn't really need tennis shoes at the moment. I got the email this morning that they've been shipped! He's going to be the coolest kid on the block!
(Amelia, no offense to Jonah! :) )

Mark your calendars for July 18, 2008!

I had my first dr. appointment yesterday afternoon. Andy got off work early to come with me, it was nice having him there to help with Avery...he was a little crazy!
We got to have an ultrasound done, it was so neat to see the baby. And you can actually tell it's a human being! My first ultrasound with Avery was a lot earlier and he just looked like a blob (we still loved it though, and proudly showed it off!). The baby's heartbeat was perfect at 164, and my due date was pushed back a few days to July 18th. We're just so happy that it's healthy!!

Here it is!

I'm going to the same office I went with my last pregnancy, but I'm seeing a different doctor and I like him SO much! The office was really busy, it was the end of the day and they had to squeeze me in at the last minute but he still took the time to actually talk to us and answer questions. It was great, though Andy thinks it's weird that I'm so excited about my dr.! The one I had with Avery just seemed like she was in a hurry all the time, so this will be a nice change. Not to feel like I'm wasting the doctors time!

It all seems so real now, hearing the heart beat and actually seeing it is so exciting!!

Birthday Calendar

I'm doing a birthday calendar swap with some other ladies, I was assigned April and December and decided to go the digital route. With a small house and and 18 month old it's so much cleaner and easier!! And I really like it.
Although, there's something really satisfying still with paper scrapping, so I haven't given up on that yet! But I love my digital program. Anyway, here are the months I did. I think they turned out pretty cute. I can't wait to see all the others!

18 Months

How does time go so fast? Avery is 18 months now, he went to Nursery for the first time last Sunday. We both had a hard time with that, it'll take some getting used to! He's just getting too big!

He also had his 18 month well check today. He's weighing in at 25 ounces 9 ounces and 33.5 ".
The Dr. was impressed with all the fun things Avery can do and say. Of course he's an amazing little boy, so who wouldn't be impressed!?

When I got home Andy came home for his lunch break (by the way, have I mentioned how much I love that!? Lunch breaks help the days seem manageable!) so we decided to make a list of all the words Avery can say, I guessed around 25. I was SO wrong! This kid learns a new word every day it seems. So here's a list, some are animal sounds...do those count as words?? You don't have to read it, but we think he's pretty cool for being able to say all of these! Of course they don't all sound exactly right, but I understand what he's saying, and every day he gets closer to the pronunciation. It's so fun listening to him!

I won!

Okay, so until now the only thing I've won was a copy of Stepford Wives from the radio, not terribly exciting. and definitely not worth the drive to get it!
But today I found out I won an adorable pursepal from the drawing Sharla was having on her blog! now I just wait to find out how I pick which design I want.
And then the real test will be if it can hold my gargantuan diaper bag! I'll probably saveit for special occasions when I get out of the house without Avery and I actually carry a "real" purse!
