Earlier this month the kids and I went with Sarah's home-school group on a summer field trip to a massive garden a couple hours south of us. They had a special Lego exhibit, flowers, bugs, animals and even a lawnmower built out of thousands of Legos! The drive was long but the kids loved it!
We spent a little bit of time in the visitor center learning about what we were going to see and playing with regular, and giant foam, Legos. Nora spent most of her time there cleaning up Legos that were abandoned on the floor. She found some buckets and went to work. :)
Each kid got a sheet of paper to keep track of which Lego creations they found while we walked around. It was a fun thing to keep them {sort of} focused. We saw some pretty amazing Lego things, and the live flowers were beautiful too. The weather was perfect, and it was great that it was pretty kid friendly so it was okay for the kids to run around in the grass. There were some play areas too, so that was great for the kids!
Nora was fairly punky, not wanting anyone else but me to talk to her, touch her, or even look at her. After a while she warmed up to Elisabeth and let her carry her around for a bit and play with her. But once she was out of the stroller she wanted nothing more to do with it! Always an adventure going places with a 17 month old!
Nora's favorite place by far was the splash pad! She would have stayed the whole time there, but no one else seemed interested...so we went with the rest of our group. The gardens were HUGE, so I didn't want to get too separated. Especially since the boys were blindly following the other kids. :)
There were tons of really cool things for the kids to climb on, which is great. I hate taking them places that they can't touch anything. They had a blast! I'm not really sure they especially paid attention to the flowers and plants that were growing everywhere...oh well!
One of the fun kid friendly things they had was an entire sidewalk scattered with chalk for the kids to draw with. Even Nora got in on that!
We went up a hugely tall outlook tower (Thank goodness we're not afraid of heights!) and looked over the just a small portion of the gardens. They had 4 gardens laid out in quilt block patterns, it was really cool! They had fruits and vegetables in that area.
By the time we got home we were all too exhausted to do much of anything, so we met Andy at the Chinese restaurant in town for dinner. I was NOT cooking! It's not hard to talk Andy into Chinese food...and it's never hard to talk me into eating out. Not cook dinner? ok! :)
The boys were eager to try and recreate some of the Lego creations we saw, they think we need more Legos now though! :)
